Fellow Lifeguards,
A Beach Representative meeting was held on November 18th, 2014. At this meeting several questions were asked as to where we stand with our 2% retro pay from this year as well as the Deficit Reduction Program (DRP) money taken out of our paychecks. We were told that these questions should be answered by the next New York State Lifeguard Corps (NYSLC) meeting in December. Apparently, there have been problems with the calibration of the paychecks in Albany. It is a statewide problem that the NYSLC is working on. Our parent union, United University Professions (UUP) is pressuring New York State for answers as well.
I have also asked the NYSLC representatives from the JBLC Chapter to answer certain questions regarding our unions dues:
1. What is the projected amount our dues will go up per pay period this coming season?
2. Disclosure of the financial statements for the year ending in September 2014 for the NYSLC.
3. If there is a surplus of money, what will it be used for?
4. Is there a maximum of surplus money to be held in the NYSLC treasury?
Hopefully we will have answers by our next Beach Representative meeting that will be held on Wednesday, December 17th, 2014 at 7:00 PM at the NYSUT Headquarters located 1000 Woodbury Rd., Woodbury NY 11797 - 2nd Floor.
