Lifeguards,

As the 2017 Jones Beach Lifeguard rookie class reaches the end of their training week, trainers Ed Costigan and Cary Epstein would like to invite anyone able to attend the Rookie Training Graduation Ceremony. It will be held tomorrow June 21st, at 3:30pm, WBHP. Please join us in welcoming the new guards to the ranks of the JBLC.

Many of these new rookies got their start through the JBLC Junior Lifeguard Program. G. Jay Liegey, Junior Lifeguard program director, would like to share the following information for those interested in working this program. If you have questions regarding the program, you can contact Jay at RM3.

Have a great summer,
Derek Angermaier
President
JBLC

The Jones Beach Junior Lifeguard Program begins its eight-week training this Sunday June 25, 2017. Sign in will be at 7:45 am on the deck at the East Bath House outside deck. Age groups are 10 through 16, and 4-6 instructors will be provided in each age group, depending on age of the child.

There are 8-10 handouts for all instructors that attend each week. These handouts will ONLY be given that weekend to the staff. Instructors will be compensated by two hours of pay. A full-time lifeguard must work one scheduled 6-hour day on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday, preferably 10:30 to 16:30 (4:30) or 11:30 to 17:30 (5:30). Part-timers will receive 2 hours of pay added to their work week. All lifeguards that work on Sundays, will work a shift of 10:30, 11:30, or 12:30 ONLY at the facility the lifeguard is assigned to.

New this year, the junior lifeguard program will be giving community service hours for all the lifeguards interested. These lifeguards will not sign into the payment sheet, but instead they will sign into a separate sheet which will be held by the program until the eighth weekend and junior lifeguard tournament. At that time, a letter will be given to the individuals for their service.

Looking forward to a great year. “It’s Great to be Here”.

G. Jay Liegey
