The Jones Beach Marine theatre opened with seating for 8,200 people. The first production was Michael Todd's version of "A Night in Venice" for the 1952 season. Guy Lombardo took over production of the Shows in 1954. Alot of lifeguards over the years worked at the shows as both lifeguards and various bit parts. Here is a rough year by year list of the productions. Other plays are "South Pacific", "Around the World in 80 days", and "Hit the deck". Let me know if anyone can identify the years, and any other stories of guards working the Show. (The Incredible Hulk?) 30 years of musical productions!

Anyone remember Paradise Island? I was reading in the book Waikiki Beachboys that David Kahanamoku made a big rescue that summer @ Jones Beach. Does Reggie remember?

Jim, I think 75 and 76 were "Oklahoma". I recall vividly that insufferable "OOOOOOOOO-kla- homa!" promotion they blared on the PA system every 20 minutes. I was at WBH, and it drove us all ca-razy. It wasn't as bad on crowded days, because the crowd noise dampened it. But on northwind days during the week when the crowd was small, it was like the speakers were right behind the stand.

One of our boatswains, Lance Corey, went to Admin. to see if we could get a respite. Once they found that we hated it, they played it more often.
