Matt;
Keep reading the Union section. There was a successful meeting last thursday where the members present worked the phones and called all our members about the NYSCOPBA poll. It seems the only members who recieved one of NYSCOPBA's 1,200 ballots mailed were Jones Beach guards with less than 4 years experiance. Jones Beach guards who have worked the last 9 years we've been in NYSCOPBA for the most part didn't get the mailing. It seems president Larry Flannigan Junior has a flawed mailing list.
The ballots are due today, and should be counted next week. We'll be holding another BRA meeting before the end of the month to dicuss the results of the poll, and find out the next step in the process.
One thing that did come out at the meeting was that in October of 2006 Roy Lester started the process of forming a 501 c tax exempt Limited Liability Corporation. He took the name "Jones Beach Lifeguard Corp" Inc and used his business address 500 Old Country road. The officers of this LLC are Cary Epstein and Steve Levy.
This created a problem since we had authorized Rob Cornachia to start a 501-c on our behalf at a BRA meeting this year. After spending $750 to set it up, he discovered the previous work by a former Executive Board. We now have two 501-c tax exempt limited liability corporations "Jones Beach Lifeguards" Inc. as well as "Jones Beach Lifeguard Corps." Inc..
The problem is we'll need cooperation from Roy Lester and his officers to get access to the other LLC? Will he cooperate? Does he want to keep this for himself? Will he charge us FEES?
Time will tell?
