The Massapequa Fire Department will be hosting the 18th Annual Firefighters Canoe Race for FUN on August 11, 2012.

The proceeds for this event will be donated to the family of Ellen Meany (Mike Scanlon's Sister) Mike is a long time RM2 lifeguard. Ellen was a 45 year old mother of three and was tragically taken from us while riding her bicycle on March 8th down Unqua Road.

The Launching will be at John J. Burns park at 10:00AM and will end at approx 1:00PM.

At the finish line we will hold a block party where we will sell hot dogs, hamburgers, soda, etc.. All contestants will receive a race day Tee-Shirt and participation medal. A continental breakfast will be served before the start of the race. This is a race for fun and to raise money and is not a timed event.

Due to time constraints, speed is essential. Applications must be received no later than July 16, 2012. Please enclose a $100 check per canoe made payable to the Massapequa Fire Dept/Canoe Race.

Very Truly Yours, Thomas P. McCarthy, Race Chairman
