This note is from Jim Murphy who was a lifeguard from WE 2 and grew up with Mike. The Mark H that Jim is referring to is Mark Hansen

Hi Tom,
I wasn't able to post this information re. The Hulk on the forum. It said only users with "special access" could do so.

Mike and I were good friends since childhood and through our lifeguard years and beyond.
Here is some additional info:
There will be a Mass for Mike Saturday , February 9 at St. Anastasia Church in Douglaston, N.Y. at 9:30 AM.

Donations may be sent to:

Mike did not die of renal failure. He was ready to leave LIJ after two weeks and go to a rehab facility. Early Tuesday morning he aspirated the contents of his stomach and suffocated.

There are so many stories to tell of Mike and his misadventure and some are posted on this forum. Usually, I wouldn't let the truth diminish the fun of legend, but in the case of how Mike got his name "The Incredible Hulk," the truth happens to be just as hilarous as the stories that grew over time.

Seems that Mike showed up at the Marine Theatre on a night when Louie Armstrong was part of the show "Showboat." Mike slipped into the theatre area dressed like a cleaning woman. He was in a puloined state issue matron's gown (lifted from the storehouse) and a bubushka. His footwear was cheap shower clogs. Underneath the gown he wore his state issue black tank suit and a sweatshirt that said on the front -- Here comes the Incredible Hulk and showed a picture of the monster himself in a threatening pose. On the back of the sweatshirt it showed a picture of the Hulk walking away and pulling a string of little duckies. It read "There Goes the Incredible Hulk."
In a nutshell, Mike felt that in his disguise, he could mingle with the actors while the show was going on, and it was quite a lively scene around the showboat with all kinds of people singing and emoting. Unfortunately, Mike took the upper catwalk from the seating area to try to get to the action on stage. This catwalk led over the water and up to the island stage where the divers used to leap from into the water. There was nothing there but empty stage. Mike walked out there, turned around and faced the thousands of people in the capacity filled arena and he took a bow. Then he walked back.
By now, the police were in the mix. Mike ran, and he was a fast runner on top of being 210, six three and solid muscle, into the men's room. He stripped off the bubushka and the gown and walked out fully expecting to fool the gendarmes with his new disguise. They jumped him right there and starting the long march to the mangers office to book the maniac they just caught.
Mark H and I were security guards that night and we joined the group bringing Mike to justice. Somehow, Mike broke loose and made a dash for it into the night. He disappeared into the huge parking lot and escaped despite a vigorous manhunt that ensued.
When I got off work that night, turns out my car was stolen. I didn't bother reporting it; I just hitched a ride to the Attic Lounge where I found it and Mike.
For the next month, every mainstand got phone calls from the police and the state officials asking "Is the Hulk there." By that time, the word was around and we all just said "Hulk? What Hulk? Sorry. Click.
And that's the story.
By the way Babbo, you don't have to feel guilty anymore. It is true that the Hulk loved smoking your weed, with which you were extremely generous, but rest assured you didn't get him started.
Mike was one of a kind. We will all miss him.
