Jones Beach Park Superintendents over the years:

1929-1934 : W. Earle Andrews. Helped design and build the park along with Robert Moses and Sidney Shapiro from 1925 till it opened in 1929, he then left in January of 1934 to join Fiorella LaGuardia's cabinet as head of New York city Parks.

1934-1938 : A Kenneth Morgan. Morgan was another Moses protege who left in 1938 to help plan the 1939 New York Worlds Fair. He later became head of the Taconic and Palisades Parks.

1938-1958: Stanley Polek.

1958-1968: Frank Champ.

1968-1973: Richard Brady.

1973-1977: Robert Ott.

Harry Swoyer was the civilian in charge of lifeguards from the early 1930's till 1952. Others who later filled that role were Danny Kehoe and George Miller. Harry Swoyer was instrumental in bring the red cross approved Tom Blake patented Hollow surfboards to the beach. Blake demonstrated their use to the Jones Beach lieutenants in around 1934. At that time he taught how to use them for both rescues and surfboard riding. They were being used nationwide on both the East and West coasts as well as Hawaii.
