| Does anyone remember a Field 0, I heard an extension went onto Field #1's lot and Field 0 extended down towards West End 1 prior to it being built and staffed. West End 2 was built when? Also does anyone remember a Short Beach staff of lifeguards? Making great strides in talking to our senior members and beginning to put together a listing of the Lieutenants of the late 50's. Frank Russell, Bob Otto, Phil Hoffman, Bill Higbie, Artie Stengel, Willie Schnell. Anyone else able to add to the list?

| I found out Field "0" was formed in 1956, it was probably an Overlook of Field #1, and the beginning of the West End Fields. First Lieutenant was Jack McGown, and Boatswain was Bill Kennedy, with Bob Kenny as the senior man. one of the other guards there was Jay Dunn. Bob Kenny started at Jones Beach in 1950 at 16 yrs old, he told them he was 18 the required age at that time. Bob entered the USMC in 1952 and still managed to work the beach each summer utilizing his 30-45 days leave. The only year he missed was 1955 till leaving the USMC marines in 1956. He did 4 more seasons before making the move in August of 1960 out to Hawaii. In his 10 years at the beach he worked Zachs Bay, Field #9, Field #6, East Bath, West Bath, and Field # "0". Most beaches had a Lietenant in charge, with a boatswain and senior man rounding out the officers. An exception was Field #9 which Bob worked in 1951 which was led by Lietenant Bill Smith and senior man Bill Kennedy. There was only a 9 man crew and it was known as Manhassett beach because most of the patrons came from that town.
