I don't know why everyone says we have not had a raise in the past 7 years or so, in reality we are taking pay cuts every year we come back without a raise. When you factor in the inflation in the past few years, we are working for a lot less money! We need a written contract so we can have the union fight for all of the hard earned rights we enjoy today. If those 39 or more had not gone on strike we would not even be having this conversation. I think we all owe those however many lifeguards who went on strike in 1971 a big debt of gratitude.

Ryan;
360 lifeguards held out for Solidarity against the Park Commission. Sad thing is they sold out the SEIU local 381 president Lawrence J Byrne in order to make a deal with Council 82 and the prison guard Union for the 1972 season. Here we are 36 years later and we're still paying dues to the prison guards?
