Beaches keep on guards

Lifeguard protection at four state beaches has been extended through this weekend because of unusually warm weather, state parks officials said.
Lifeguards will be on duty at Jones Beach Field 6, Robert Moses Field 5, the Sunken Meadow main beach and Hither Hills main beach from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Park admission dropped from $8 to $6 after Labor Day because the beaches were closed to swimming, and the rate will not be increased this weekend. Admission fees are collected on weekends until Thanksgiving.
